Australia’s Jason Day holds at #1 in the Razzball.com Fantasy Golf Rankings, May 31, 2016 edition. It’s Day’s fifth consecutive week at number one, but his hold on the top spot could be in serious jeopardy this week.

The 2016 Players Champion holds a lead of just over 300 points over American Matt Kuchar, who moves up a place to #2, after his third consecutive Top 6 finish on the PGA Tour, a T6 at the Dean and Deluca Invitational.

Kuchar swaps places with the number three player in the Official World Golf Ranking, Rory McIlroy of Nothern Ireland. McIlroy, winner of the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open in his last start, was idle last week.

Dean and Deluca champion Jordan Spieth moves back into the Top 5, jumping nine places to number four.  The Colonial win was the former world number one’s second win of the 2015-2016 PGA Tour Season and his first victory since the Hyundai Tournament of Champions in January.

Also re-entering the Top Five is England’s Danny Willett, after his 3rd place finish at the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.  It was the 2016 Masters Champion first Top 5 finish since his first major championship victory in early April.  The 28-year old is the only player to appear in the Top 20 of our rankings every week since we initiated the weekly survey last November.

Movers and Shakers

No fewer than six players break into the Top 20 of our rankings this week, and four of them are first-timers.

One returner is also the biggest mover of the week.  BMW PGA Champion Chris Wood of England jumps 253 places from 268 to 15 after the third European Tour victory of his career. The 28-year old from Bristol is just one place short of his career best 14th place ranking on December 7, 2015.

The other player to return to the elite 20 is American Bryce Molder, who re-enters after a one week absence, moving 21 to 13, bettering his previous high ranking of 19th on May 17th.

Among the new entrants, Sweden’s Rikard Karlberg  makes the highest debut, moving 51-9 after a second place finish at the BMW. Other players to appear in the Top 20 for the first time include Tyrell Hatton of England, who moves 38 to 17 as the result of a 7th place finish at the BMW; American Ryan Palmer, whose T3 at the Dean and Deluca help move him 72 to 18; and Germany’s Martin Kaymer, who picked up a second consecutive European Tour Top 10 at Wentworth to jump from 41 to 20th.

This Week

Number one is definitely in play this week, as the Top 4 players in the the Razzball Fantasy Rankings, May 31, 2016 edition are all entered in the Memorial Tournament on the PGA Tour. The filed features the Top 5 players in the Official World Golf Ranking and 14 of the Top 25.

On the European Tour, World #6 Henrik Stenson heads a slightly less impressive field at the Nordea Masters. Masters’ runner-up Lee Westwood and Korean sensation Jeunghun Wang, a two-time winner on tour this season, are among the other notable entries.

The Rankings Methodology

Razzball’s Fantasy Golf Rankings are compiled using a rolling 10-tournament window from both the PGA and European Tours, and other key world-wide events, with the most recent events weighted more heavily.  Bonus points are awarded for top tier events like the FedEx Cup Playoffs, European Tour Championship and World Golf Championships, with the most points up for grabs during the four majors and the Players Championship.

The rankings are published every week during the, now, never-ending, golf season.
