Playa del Carmen, Mexico – Derek Fathauer shot a five-under par 66 on Saturday, to take a one-shot lead heading into the final round of the OHL Classic at Mayakoba.
The 29-year old had four birdies on the front to go out in 32 and had a birdie on the par-5 13th hole in his bogey-free round. He is one shot ahead of fellow American Jason Bohn (65), and three up on a group of four golfers. That group includes last week’s winner at the HSBC Russell Knox (65), former Brotish Open Champion Justin Leonard (67), Harold Varner III (68) and 36-hole leader Graeme McDowell, who overcame a double bogey/boget start to shoot 70 and get back into the mix.
Fathauer, a University of Louisville grad didn’t put much stock in his one shot lead. “The scores that this course puts up, I don’t think it matters being in the lead out here,” Fathauer said. “I mean, if I had a 10-shot lead, that would be one thing, but one shot, that’s an even playing field tomorrow. Please, blog, may I have some more?
