Palm Harbor, Florida – It was a year ago that an underachieving Jordan Spieth, ranked in 10th in the Official World Golf Ranking at the time, jump-started an historic season with a victory at the Valspar Championship. The now number one player in the world is hoping that pattern repeats itself, as the tour returns to Innisbrook resort for the 2016 Valspar Championship.

Like last season, the reigning Masters and U.S. Open champion is struggling a bit after an early season victory at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions. He has a T17, a T21 and a missed cut in last three PGA Tour starts, and is hoping a return to a place with happy memories will kick start his season, in the lead-up to Augusta.

The 22-year old highlights a predictably weaker field, a week after the first World Golf Championship event of the season and a week before Arnold Palmer’s event at Bay Hill. Only six of the Top 20 players in the field are entered to challenge the famed Copperhead course.

The list of elite talent includes Sweden’s Henrik Stenson (currently 7th in the Official World Golf Ranking); last year’s Valspar runner-up, Patrick Reed (10th); Englishman Danny Willet, who finished T3 at last week’s WGC event (11th); and South Africans Branden Grace (12th) and Louis Oosthuizen (18th).

Miami, Fla – The Best players in the world are in Miami this week for the first World Golf Championships event of the season. So that means it’s time for our 2016 Cadillac Championship picks.

This will be the first time this season that all the world’s best will be assembled at one event, and it will no doubt go along way towards determining the favorite for the year’s first major. Hard to believe that Augusta is only five weeks away.

But picking a winner in this wacky 2015-2016 season won’t be easy.

Dustin Johnson is the defending champion, but like many of the Top 10 players in the Official World Golf Ranking this season, his play has been anything but consistent.  Even the so-called “Big Four” of Jordan Spieth, Jason Day, Rory McIlroy and Rickie Fowler, have had their share of highs and lows so far in 2016.

Among the top five in the world, Bubba Watson, winner of his last start in Los Angeles, is probably in the best form, and that, coupled with his stellar record at Doral, probably makes him the early-line favorite.

Palm Beach Gardens, Florida – The PGA Tour returns to Florida this week, which means it’s time for our fearless 2016 Honda Classic Picks.

Last year, 3-time major champion Padraig Harrington broke a long slump with a playoff victory over young American Daniel Berger. It was the Irishmen’s first win on tour since winning back-to-back majors at the Open Championship and PGA Championship, way back in 2008.

It was also Harrington’s second victory at the Honda, having won the event for the first time in 2005.

Harrington’s back to defend his title and once again will be challenged by some of the game’s top players lead by the number three player in the Official World Golf Ranking, Rory McIlroy. The former world number one was the winner of this event in 2012, in a classic duel with Tiger Woods.

The PGA Tour returns to one of America’s greatest golf courses this week, as the golfing world sets it’s focus on Riviera.  That means it’s time for our 2016 Northern Trust Open picks.

Last year Korean born, American raised James Hahn, previously more famous for his dance skills (see his classic version of Gangnum Style here) than his golfing exploits, upset some of the biggest names in golf, to claim his first PGA Tour title.

This year he will be challenged by a strong field that includes five of the top eight players in the Official World Golf Ranking. Those looking to take the prestigious L.A. Open crown will include World number one Jordan Spieth, #3 ranked Rory McIlroy, Bubba Watson (6th),  Justin Rose (7th) and Dustin Johnson (8th).

Watson is a former winner of the event, having won the title in 2014.  Other former champions in the field include 2013 winner John Merrick, Bill Haas, the 2012 victor, and 2011 titleholder Aaron Baddeley.

Pebble Beach, Ca – Time for our 2016 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am picks, as the PGA Tour returns to one of the World’s greatest Golf Courses.

Defending champion Brandt Snedeker, one of the hottest players on tour this season, will be looking for his 3rd victory in four years in this event.

Pebble Beach has also attracted six of the top nine players in the world, including the number one player in the Official World Golf Ranking, Jordan Spieth. Other top ranked players include third-ranked Jason Day,  Bubba Watson (6th), Justin Rose (7th), Patrick Reed (9th) and Dustin Johnson (8th).  Johnson will also be looking for his third AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am title, after wins in 2009 and 2010.

Other past champions in the field include Jimmy Walker (2014), three-time winner Phil Mickelson (2012, 2005 and 1998), D.A. Points (2011), Vijay Singh (2004) and Davis Love III (2001 and 2003).

Scottsdale, Arizona – It’s time for our 2016 Waste Management Phoenix Open picks and there’s no shortage of story lines as the PGA Tour returns to the Arizona desert.

On top of the agenda is whether Brandt Snedeker, last week’s winner in San Diego at the Farmers Insurance Open, can keep rolling.  That roll has seen him finish in the Top 3 in all three events he’s played in 2016.  The Nashville native has moved up 37 spots in the Official World Golf Ranking to #12 since the start of the year, and sits second in the Razzball.com Fantasy Golf Rankings.

Another story line will be trying to figure out which Rickie Fowler will show up in Scottsdale this week. Will it be the player who delivered a statement victory in Abu Dhabi against a strong field?  Or will it be the guy who failed to make the cut last week in San Diego.  Let’s give young Rickie the benefit of the doubt, and write off his poor performance last week to a combination of celebration and jet lag.  We predict he will be better this week.

With a strong field that includes 10 of the Top 25 players in the World, led by the fourth ranked Bubba Watson, and defending champion Brooks Koepka, we’re expecting another exciting event. So without further adieu, here is our 2016 Waste Management Phoenix Open Picks.

San Diego, Ca – The PGA Tour returns to historic Torrey Pines this week for the 2016 Farmers Insurance Open.

Seven-time champion Tiger Woods is not in the field this year, due to his well documented back troubles, but a suddenly in form three time champion is one of the 156 players who will tee it up on Thursday.  Of course, we are speaking of Phil Mickelson who may well be a contender this week, after a strong showing at last week’s Career Builder Challenge.

Other notable players in the field include the second ranked player in the Official World Golf Ranking, and the tournament’s defending champion, Jason Day, and world #4 Rickie Fowler, fresh of a win in Abu Dhabi last week.

La Quinta, Ca – The PGA Tour returns to the continental United States this week, and it’s time for our Career Builder Challenge picks for both Draft Kings and Yahoo fantasy formats.

A full field of 156 players will make their way to the California Desert that was recently known as the Humana Challenge and more famously known for decades as the Bob Hope Desert Classic, before the PGA Tour went all corporate.

Defending champion Bill Haas is in the field, a field that suffers somewhat by being scheduled opposite the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship.  The European Tour event features four of the top six players in the world, including World number one Jordan Spieth and the #3 player in the Official World Golf Ranking, Rory McIlroy.

The La Quinta field does feature one of the hottest players on the planet in 10th ranked Patrick Reed and the defending Open Champion Zach Johnson, currently ranked 11th. Legend Phil Mickelson also makes his 2015-2016 PGA Tour debut on Thursday.

Honolulu, Hawaii – The PGA Tour continues in Hawaii this week, as 156 players tee it up in the Sony Open in Hawaii, the circuit’s first full field event of 2016. Defending champion Jimmy Walker is looking to make a little bit of tour history, as he tries to become the first player, since Steve Sticker in 2009-2011 (John Deere Classic), to win the same PGA Tour event three years in a row.

With many of the tour’s top players skipping this event after competing at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions last weekend, the tournament does not feature a player in the Top 10 of the Official World Golf Ranking, with #11 Adam Scott being the highest ranked challenger to Walker’s three-peat hopes. Still the field features eight of the Top 30 players in the world including Scott, 12th ranked Zach Johnson, #16 Kevin Kisner, #20 Matt Kuchar, #23 Kevin Na, Walker at #25, the 26th ranked player in the world Marc Leishman and #30 Russell Knox.

All of the players mentioned make compelling choices for various reasons and many would have to be considered in form, based on recent results.

Kapalua, Hawaii – The 2015-2016 PGA Tour season, fresh off a six-week break, resumes this weekend in Hawaii with the 64th playing of the Hyundai Tournament of Champions. It’s the 18th time the event has been played in the Aloha state.

In addition to being the first tour event of 2016, it also signals the start of many fantasy golf leagues, who use the calendar year, rather than the PGA Tour’s wrap-around schedule to run their competitions.

With a field that includes the top two players in the Official World Golf Ranking , and six of the top 10, the Tournament of Champions this year promises to be one of the most interesting and entertaining season openers in years.

To help all of you get 2016 off to a quick start, here are our Razzball.com Fantasy Golf Hyundai Tournament of Champions Picks.
