In case you haven’t heard, Tiger Woods is back in action this week at the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines. Oh, you’ve heard? Okay.

So — is he worth your time this week? More on that later…

Before you can look forward, you have to look back. Last week’s Career Builder Challenge was a great success — if you paid attention. It wasn’t a win, but considering the success of Adam Hadwin and Zach Johnson, it was a solid week for sleepers.

That said, sorry about Bubba Watson. Apparently, he’s not quite ready to return to form.

Now that the Palm Springs desert is in the rear-view mirror officially, lets take a look at the best bang for your buck picks at the Farmers Insurance Open:

Farmers Insurance Open
La Jolla, California
January 25th – 28th
Course(s): Torrey Pines North Course, Torrey Pines South Course

Dusty Nuggets:

Peter Uihlein — One player who has been a tad overlooked in fantasy formats is Peter Uihlein. After a couple years of success on the European Tour, Uihlein has lived up to the hype over here in the states in his first three starts as a full-time PGA Tour member. If you’re looking to bolster the back end of your lineup, take a look at Uihlein. Be warned, however, that he won’t be as cheap as you’d like in DFS. That said, he’s still worth a look.

Harris English — One player who is definitely going to get a spot on my fantasy roster this week is Harris English. Why would I be so adamant about the 252nd ranked player in the world being in my lineup? Because not only has English displayed the talent to be a top-50 player in the world, he’s been playing well as of late (T-11 at the Career Builder) and has never missed a cut in five appearances at the Farmers. He also lost here in a playoff in 2015. Put all that together and you’ve got one very enticing sleeper pick.

Kyle Stanley — A friend of mine’s father once quipped, “don’t ever trust a man named Stanley.” But that’s the advice of a guy still keeps a case of tallboys in his trunk and doesn’t really talk to his kid, so I’m not afraid to buck the advice this week and take a look at Kyle Stanley. For the most part, Stanley has been a fantasy disappointment, but his success at Torrey Pines is enough warrant a last-pick move in DFS or a spot on your bench in any other format. Along with his P2 here in 2012, he’s also collected top-25’s in each of his last two appearances at the Farmers.

Dirty Gems:

Tiger Woods — When I was a kid, there was no one I rooted for harder than Eldrick. Over time, I’ve grown salty — but, I’m not stupid. Track record has a lot to do with who makes this list each week and, despite all the crap he’s been through and the crap golf he’s played the last couple years or so, he’s got to have your attention any time he tees it up at Torrey Pines. I’m not sure he’s a starter, but a spot as a reserve this week is certainly warranted.

Ollie Schniederjans — I don’t think Ollie Schniederjans is going to find himself on this list for much longer, so take advantage while you can. Last year, Schniederjans and his hair finished T-9 at the Farmers — and in his last start on Tour two weeks ago, he finished T-7 at the Sony Open in Hawaii. His trend arrow is pointing straight up, so take note.
