Not surprisingly, the week after the year’s second major saw minimal movement at the top of the Razzball.com Fantasy Golf Rankings, June 28, 2016 edition.
That means that American Dustin Johnson, fresh off his U.S. Open victory, holds onto the top spot in our weekly rankings for a second week.
DJ holds a nearly 1,500 point lead over Ireland’s Shane Lowry, and returns to action this week at the World Golf Championship Bridgestone Invitational.
Veteran Jim Furyk and Spain’s Sergio Garcia make small moves within the top 10, after posting strong results on the weekend.
Furyk jumps from 5th to 3rd after a tie for 21st at the Quicken Loans Invitational. Garcia is also up two spots moving 6 to 4, after a 5th place finish at the BMW International in Germany.
American Scott Piercy slips from 5th to 3rd, to round out the Top Five.
Movers and Shakers
Only four players move into the Top 20 this week, two of which have been here before.
BMW International champion Henrik Stenson of Sweden returns to the top 20 at number eight, up 74 spots from a week ago. It’s Stenson’s first appearance in the Top 20 since April 26th. He was #2 in our weekly survey on November 16, 2015.
Cinderella story Billy Hurley makes an even bigger debut, hitting #16 in his first week in the rankings after his win at The Quicken Loans. The former Navy man finished strong to pick up his first PGA tour win in Tiger’s tournament.
American Kevin Streelman makes a less dramatic rankings debut, improving eight places to number 18 after a 12th place finish at Congressional.
Finally Norway’s Thorbjorn Olesen returns to the Top 20 for the first time since February 9th, after a runner-up finish in Germany. Olesen jumps from 99th to 20th.
A chance for a second big rankings shake-up in three weeks this week, as the PGA Tour plays the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational at Firestone. The World Golf Championships event gives bonus points to top finishers and has attracted a top field that includes seven of the Top 10 players in the Official World Golf Ranking, and 40 of the Top 50. Among the players who will tee-off on Thursday are the Top three players in the world – Jason Day, Jordan Spieth and Dustin Johnson.
Meanwhile on the European Tour, World #4 Rory McIlroy and Masters’ champion Danny Willett headline a strong filed at the Open de France.
The Rankings Methodology
Razzball’s Fantasy Golf Rankings are compiled using a rolling 10-tournament window from both the PGA and European Tours, and other key world-wide events, with the most recent events weighted more heavily. Bonus points are awarded for top tier events like the FedEx Cup Playoffs, European Tour Championship and World Golf Championships, with the most points up for grabs during the four majors and the Players Championship.
The rankings are published every week during the, now, never-ending, golf season.
