He may not have been in a PGA Tour winner’s circle since Obama was starting his first term in office. But Paul Casey is still a deserving number one in the Fantasy Golf Rankings, October 25, 2016 edition.

The Englishmen has recorded four top four finishes in his last five starts and holds on to top spot after a T21 at the CIMB Classic.

He holds an almost 300 point lead over FedEx Cup champion Rory McIlroy. McIlroy returns to action for the first time since his win at the Tour Championship this week in China. It’s the four-time major champion’s second consecutive week at number two after a three week run in the top spot.

Making a major move this week is American Justin Thomas. Fresh off a win in Malaysia, the 23-year old Kentucky native jumps 10 spots to land at number three. It’s the University of Alabama alum’s highest ranking ever and his first time in the top ten.

Thomas also moves up to a career high 21st in the Official World Golf Ranking with the win. He’s definitely a player to watch in 2017.

U.S Open champion Dustin Johnson, who falls a spot to number four, and former world number one Adam Scott, who holds at #5, round out the top five.

Movers and Shakers

There isn’t a lot of movement in the rankings this week with only one player jumping into the Top 20 of the Fantasy Golf Rankings, October 25, 2016 edition.

That distinction goes to a three-time major champion who always seems to come up with something big when we are ready to write him off.

The player we are talking about is Ireland’s Padraig Harrington. The 45-year old shocked the golfing world with a win at the Portugal Masters on the European Tour to jump 218 places to land at #18.

Seems there’s still life in the old dog.

This Week on Tour

Two chances for players to earn ranking points this week with tournaments in Mississippi and China.

In Shanghai, most of the world’s best tee it up in the World Golf Championship HSBC Champions. Scotland’s Russell Knox is the defending champion, while the field also includes the likes of Dustin Johnson, Rory McIlroy, Henrik Stenson and Adam Scott.

The rank and file of the PGA Tour, meanwhile will be in Jackson, Mississippi for the Sanderson Farms Championship.

The Rankings Methodology

Razzball’s Fantasy Golf Rankings are compiled using a rolling 10-tournament window. Players earn points from on events on both the PGA and European Tours, and other key world-wide events. The most recent events are weighted more heavily.  Bonus points are awarded for top tier events like the FedEx Cup Playoffs, European Tour Championship and World Golf Championships. And the most points are up for grabs during the four majors and the Players Championship.

The rankings are published every week during the, now, never-ending, golf season.
